He's got pneumonia

Well, Cooper has pneumonia. After running fever all night and lots of diarrhea, I decided to give the GI a call. The nurse told me she would feel best if we took Cooper into the pedi, but he was out of the office today. There was no other doctor in town that could/would see him, so I had to take him to the ER. I am very glad I did because we were able to get all the results quickly. They looked him over and after listening to his lungs decided to do a chest xray. They also did a swab for RSV and flu, both which were negative, and a stool sample which was normal as well. After finding the pneumonia in his left lung, they decided to run a battery of blood work. The CBC was normal, which was very good news, and he is not dehydrated. They also did a culture, but that will take a week. If it is normal, the pneumonia should clear up with the antibiotics they gave him. We will see the pedi next week to make sure everything looks good. I am glad to have an explanation for the fever and the diarrhea. I am also thankful for the steroids he was given while at Cooks because I believe that things might be worse if he had not had them. He probably got the pneumonia from aspiration while off his reflux meds or as a complication from the scope. Either way, we are treating it now and hopefully he will be back to himself soon. We will be spending the weekend at home. I think we may put up our Christmas tree tomorrow. It will be a fun weekend activity.
