The Baby Borrowers

I just finished watching the pilot of this new, and might I say, controversial new show, The Baby Borrowers. First off, the idea is genius. Basically they move 5 teenage couples to a secluded culdesac in middle America. They all believe they are ready to start a family. Their lives are put in fast forward. The first day, they are alone in their house; the "honeymoon" stage. The next day they are given pregnancy bellies and sent to parenting classes, and then the next day they are given real, live babies ranging from 6-11 months, followed by toddlers, adolescences, teenagers, and finally the elderly. The first episode only went through the first day with the babies. I don't know where they found the parents that were willing to give up there babies to teenagers for 3 days, but they did. There is no way I'd ever leave my kid with them, even though they were just across the street and able to watch their every move. I think that the ad for the show says it all, "it's not TV, it's birth control." I hope that it teaches many the reality of parenthood. We have so many girls come through the center who want to be pregnant. It amazes me. They're still in school, not married, but want a baby non the less. At the same time, as a younger parent myself, I feel like the parents of the "borrowed" babies make it seem like you need to be much older to be a good parent. I'm sure if they met us, they'd think we were too young to be good parents. I assume many think Cooper was "surprise" and would be shocked to know how very planned he was. I think it is all about the individual. That being said, I don't think any of these kids are ready to be parents, nor is anyone their age. Anyway, I think it is a great show and would suggest tuning in.
